Engagement Session Tips & Ideas With Envy Foto ~ Engagement Photography

Having engagement pictures is an important part of the wedding planning. Not only does it give you a chance to be in front of the camera before your big day but it also gives you a chance to get your photographer to know you & your fiance. That time together will allow you the chance to get comfortable & let your photographer know who you are & what your style is. At Envy Foto we like to share a few tips & ideas to help you plan your engagement session.

Schedule your engagement shoot early~ It is important to schedule your engagement shoot at least 3 weeks prior to the date you want to mail out your announcements to prevent rush charges & stress. Talk with your photographer about their turnaround time to be sure you allow enough time for editing & picking pictures for your invitations.

Hair~ Before you make a drastic change such as a new color or new haircut make sure you give yourself enough time to make the changes necessary in case you aren’t particularly fond of it. Also when deciding how to do your hair think about how you normally wear it. We often times have clients wish they would have done something different with their hair as they don’t think they look like themselves when they have a new hair style that they normally wouldn’t wear. For example if you normally wear your hair down you may not feel like you look like yourself. Hiring a professional for your hair & make up is always recommended. Hire someone you trust & be sure to do a test run prior to your wedding or photo session to be sure you are both on the same page & loving your look.

Let your photographer know what you like & what you don’t like~ Communicating with your photographer is extremely important. Everyone is unique & likes different things. Some couples prefer more traditional, posed shots and others like a creative approach with different angles, fish eye shots, candid shots & special effects. If you have a preference or want something specific let your photographer know. The shoot is about you & what it is you want. A good photographer will be able to do what it is you ask & can shoot various styles. If you see something you like or want to recreate let your photographer know & show them what you want. We want you to get the most out of your photography session so let us know what you want.

Bad Weather~ Unfortunately we can’t control the weather. We do our best to inform our clients of the possibility of inclement weather but ultimately it is up to you if you want to continue with your shoot or reschedule. Keep in mind that if you choose to keep a scheduled shoot during inclement weather your pictures will have rain or snow in them and that your hair may go frizzy or flat & you could have rain spots on your clothing. There could be snow spots on the camera & some locations may not be as beautiful. Ultimately we try to discourage photo shoots during inclement weather so that you can get the best images possible.

Locations & Times~ Listen to your photographer about the best locations & times for your shoot. If you have a specific place in mind let them know about it & get their opinion. Having good lighting and a variety of scenery will make a huge difference in having your images turn out the way you like them. It is ultimately up to you on where you want to go but keep in mind we need to have good light & scenery to make the images turn out fantastic.

1940′s Themed Engagement Shoot~Inpired by “The Notebook”~By Still Timeless Photography

Inspired by the movie ‘The Notebook‘ and the great era of the 1940′s, Tara and Brent chose this as the theme for their engagement photos with Still Timeless Photography. The 1940′s . . . an era of swing music, amazing clothes and great movies like ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ and ‘Casablanca’. Did you know that the minimum wage in 1940 was 43 cents per hour? Inventions in the 40′s included the slinky, Frisbee and Velcro. Where would we be without Velcro?
Still Timeless Photography found the perfect venue for this engagement session at the historic Union Station in Ogden. It is always fun to do something unique and we LOVE the vintage look of their photos!!! Glade finished off their photo session with Tara and Brent sharing a milkshake at the quaint Farr’s Ice Cream Shop in Ogden, an old-fashioned ice cream parlor filled with sweet treats, mint green decor and nostalgia for days gone by.

It is always fun to incorporate your personality into your photos. Discuss with your wedding photographer some fun ways to make your photos unique.

Engagement Session Tips & Ideas from Swensen Photography

When should you schedule your engagement shoot~ It is important to schedule your engagement shoot at least 3 weeks prior to the date you want to mail out your announcements to prevent rush charges & stress. (Times will vary with each photographer as their turn around time may be different from ours. Be sure to check with your photographer on how long it will take them to get your images back to you, & remember to take time for yourself to pick your favorite shot or shots to put in your announcement.)

Editing & turn around times~ Our turn around times vary depending on the season, however they are typically fast. Contact your photographers office for specific turn around times. Every photography office has their own editing process. At our office, every image goes through an editing process however Intense editing such as removal of objects from an image & specific touch ups will be done on the images that are chosen to print and not on every image that you receive on the disk. We offer extra editing for an additional fee per image. Be sure to check with your photographer on their specific editing process so that you know before hand what you will be getting & how long it takes them to have them ready for you.

Locations & Times~ Listen to your photographer about the best locations & times for your shoot. If you have a specific place in mind let them know about it & get their opinion. We suggest that you look at different pictures from various locations & pick what interests you the post. Having good lighting and a variety of scenery will make a huge difference in having your images turn out the way you like them. It is ultimately up to you on where you want to go but keep in mind that your photographer needs to have good light & scenery to make the images turn out fantastic.

What to wear~ This is such a personal choice as it is important for you to choose clothing that you are comfortable in & that reflects your style & personality. Here are just a few simple tips to keep in mind: Cap sleeves & baby doll shirts typically aren’t flattering. Depending on the location, the color red can wash people out. Stay away from heavy patters as they can become distracting. Many couples also bring outfit changes with different looks as well. Having Fun in Philly~Philadelphia Engagement Shoot

Deedra and Jason are the kind of people you want to be friends with! They’re super sweet, they’re big fans of sports, they love sushi (a weekly eat out) and having a good time. Some of their family is in military proudly serving the country. When we first met we didn’t even know if the date was solid as some of their immediate family can always be called back out of the country. But they were so excited to book me that they pretty much made the date firm and I agreed to be flexible. A few months later, we got together to do the engagement session. I immediately wanted to do something fun and drastic, like planking. Look it up, it’s a lot of fun! From Jason’s words: “I won’t lie I was ready to not have fun. I don’t exactly enjoy getting my picture taken but it was so much fun”. We made an original composite of them posing in various parts of high school bleachers. I got them to wear orange cones, do some jumping on a mat. From Deedra’s own words: “Everyone loves the pics!!! They love how it’s not the typical “engagement pictures” and that they’re fun!” Of course we did do some more typical romantic photos and I didn’t have to do any directing, they were so comfortable with me, that honest love was easy to capture.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I’m all about showing off who you are and what makes you unique. Pretty pictures of couples in fields are great, so chalk it up to some A.D.D. on my part if you want, but I need to try something new and different every single time I go out with my camera, so when I go out to photograph my millionth engagement shoot, there’s nothing more new, different and exciting than a couple of unique individuals. And to me, that means one thing: new ideas for shots that will be unique and completely stand out from the crowd.

Scott & January were such a blast to work with and had so many ideas for what they wanted their engagement session to look like. They were onboard with my ideas and I was onboard with theirs. Total collaboration! One thing I knew right from the start was that the contrast between their characters had to be captured somehow. She likes shopping and Gucci shoes, he likes hunting and rifles. When she told me this, I instantly responded with “let’s put that contrast together, like in the same shot!”. She fell in love with the idea and we went from there.

Fourth of July Inspired ~ Styled Engagement Shoot

Creating a fun styled shoot for your own engagements doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact it is the simple things that make your engagements unique, fun & all about you. Your favorite drink, your favorite treats, location or recreating your first date, proposal or when the moment you knew you were in love. Your engagement session should be memorable, fun & showcase your love for each other.

This gorgeous shoot was created by keeping simple & fresh in mind. Kim Bullock Photography was able to capture not only simple & fresh but fun as well. The beautiful color palate of red, teal & white went off with a smash. The paper products added the perfect touch. Megan with Modify Design actually designed the patterned paper for the cute pin wheels. She then printed the paper & made them. What a talent she is & they are so cute. She offers a variety of fun things from invitations, save the date cards, banners & cupcake toppers. Megan was a great part of this shoot. She not only kept on up with the perfect color palate & Fourth of July theme but she had the perfect idea of handing out sparklers as thank yous for the guests to use. What a perfect idea especially for the Fourth of July Holiday.

Marynika with Blooms & Company did a great job with the flowers. Sometimes I think brides get too excited about a theme and it can get cheesey. Keeping things classy and simple made the flowers flow with all the other details. They added in some fun food products from The Cocoa Bean, because food is such an important detail in receptions. The fruit in the jar was a fun presentation and who can pass up red velvet cupcakes?! They wanted it to be a fun picnic with a beautiful theme and I think it turned out great.

Kim’s idea for photography was to capture all the color the shoot was going to have. She also really wanted to create a feel for the pictures of being in love, since this is a real engagement session their love really showcased perfectly. This shoot wasn’t just about the couple for Kim it was also about the setting, which helps show the atmosphere for the pictures. So a beautiful field, an amazing barn and sun shining over the mountains was a great setting for this shoot.
