The initial realization of winning the $100,000 grand prize was only further reinforced today. Today we met with the kind people from www.theBrideandGroom.com and Rachel from Swensen Photography. This meeting was of great importance to both my fiance and myself, as we were given the list of all the prizes and vendors we are to receive for winning the grand prize.

The first steps to begin the planning of this Dream Wedding was to learn fully the gifts that we were going to be given. Words can’t describe the excitement once the list was presented with certificates. It was a realization that it DID happen and we were going to have a wedding to remember.

Rachel from Swensen Photography was very fun and easy to talk /work with. We felt that she was really there to support us and was ready to do what needed to be done to make sure all the photography would be amazing for the wedding.

The package Swensen Photography offered for winning the grand prize is called the “Fairy Tale” package. I registered for the “La Caille Bridal Extravaganza” just days before the event was to take place. The day approached rapidly… July 17^th 2010. This was the second major bridal show I attended since becoming engaged on March 26^th. Planning weddings was something I knew to be quite difficult, so it was only natural to try and attend as many events as possible to learn of all the options for my wedding.

The La Caille Bridal show had an amazing incentive, one literally “out of this world”. As an incentive for people to attend the show an amazing prize was offered. A dream wedding was to be given away to possibly anyone who took the time to not only remain at the show till the last minute, but also receive signatures from every single vendor within the La Caille grounds.. This normally would seem like a lot of work, but we were there for the purpose of finding wedding vendors, so we figured it was worth a shot right?

Thomas and I had the privilege of meeting multiple wedding vendors in the fields of photography to wedding cakes to full service wedding planning. In other words, it was a plethora of vendors that cover nearly every aspect of an entire wedding service.

I knew that our wedding vendor list had to be turned in by 4 pm. The grand prize drawing was going to happen at 4:30, so we hastily finished our vendor list and turned it in at the La Caille entrance. The thought of winning was of course in the back of both Thomas’ and my mind, but the probability of it happening was far to slim for us to truly believe that it could be us…

Just before the grand prize drawing took place, Thomas was attempting to win one of the smaller donations in a last ditch effort to not leave empty handed. Thomas still remembers fighting (not literally) for a limousine ride that was given to another couple. Little did he know his whole world was about to be turned upside down.

The drawing neared and the crowd became quiet. The whole audience released a sense of anticipation and excitement that it could possibly be anyone sitting and listening at that very moment. Suddenly, Rachel from La Caille reached her hand into the box and picked a submitted slip. Silence abounded, with every “bride to be” hoping it was them. That’s when I heard my name. Obviously it was instant excitement and my scream resonated through the canyon… Could it really be? Yes….

All my life, I have never won any prize significant to take my breathe away. This was that moment without a doubt. Thomas, astonished that it truly was my name that was announced, sat in a trance like state. It was truly one of the most memorable moments of both of our lives.

This is a blessing in more ways then one. Not only will we have the “wedding of our dreams”, but we had the ability to share our moment of excitement with so many people. We look forward to working with all the wedding vendors included in the prize and can’t wait to get the party started!

Shantel & David are such an adorable couple that we couldn’t miss out on sharing their beautiful wedding with you.  They were married on July 2nd, 2010 at the Harrison residence in Salina, Utah.

How they Met:

“We knew of each other because of High School, we were “rival schools” I went to N. Sevier and he went to S. Sevier, but the first time we actually met in person my friend Katie had begged me to go on a double date with her and this guy she wanted to date from S. Sevier, so I eventually gave in and went and the friend her date brought for me was David..this was seven years ago. After that first night we were inseparable.”

Their Engagement: “Well, it’s kinda funny, we were telling people we were engaged before we actually were because we had both already picked out each others rings and were making wedding plans, but just a little slow on the actual engagement part. So on June 1^st, exactly a month away from our wedding date I had said, “You know David, you may want to ask me to marry you soon so we can actually start doing our pictures and invitations since we only have a month!” I think it made him nervous and later that day as we got ready to head out to his softball game he opened my car door for me and as I was sitting there I asked him “what are you doing?” because he was just standing there and we were in a hurry, so he finally got down on his knee in the parking lot and asked. It was just quick and fun, and he made me laugh because he thought he had to hurry and do it that day because I was wanting to start making plans.   Afterward he said, “Maybe I should re try that proposal thing again.” He always keeps me laughing.”

Their Song: “We have a lot of songs we call “our song” but the one that probably stands out the most is called 4AM by Our Lady Peace, this is the first song he ever sang to me and it’s been our favorite ever since.”

Wedding Colors: Apple green, Tangerine orange and black

What Shantel likes most about David: “His funny goofy personality and his genuine care and concern for other people’s well being. He’s a very selfless person and I learn so much from him on a daily basis!”

What David likes most about Shantel:” She keeps me on my toes. She has a million different funny expressions she pulls throughout the day. Always leaves me laughing. We have a good time together doing absolutely anything and I love that.”

Photography~ “Justin at  Swensen Photography. He’s so awesome, we couldn’t have picked a better guy to take our pictures. He has a great personality and has made us feel so comfortable throughout the entire experience. He’s amazing at what he does and we have loved every second working with him!”

Wedding Dress~ “I found my dress at Boulevard Bridal in St. George, I am kind of a procrastinator and put my dress off until the last minute believe it or not. I know that’s usually the first thing a bride tries to find, but I was nervous because I’m a little picky when it comes to stuff like that. But Boulevard Bridal was the first store I looked in and I walked in and spotted the dress at first glance. I told the lady that’s the dress I want and I hope you have it in my size, of course they didn’t but she had the dress below my size and above my size so I tried them on, made some minor adjustments and it was perfect. She said well do you want to try on any more just in case and I said nope this is the one. She began to laugh and said I’m pretty sure you are the easiest bride I’ve ever worked with in my career here. So that made me feel good, and I felt even better because I loved the dress and it was a painless shopping experience. =)”

Decorations & Other items~ “We are renting most of our wedding pieces from Diamond Rental in Orem UT, other than that I love Tai Pan Trading and have purchased almost everything we will need for the wedding and reception from that store. They have an amazing line of inventory and have great prices. I am planning on making my own decorations and centerpieces, as well as most of the treats for the reception.”

Advice from the Bride~ “I have found that things are so much easier for me, being a one month engagement, because I already had a plan in my head of how I wanted things to look and what type of environment I would like the setting to be in. Brainstorming ahead of time about all the ideas I had for the wedding saved David and I a lot of time and energy and has made this quick planning process smooth and simple for the most part. We’ve been able to enjoy every second because of that!”

Shantel & David are so excited to have finally taken this next big step in their relationship.  They are so excited to make a home & have a family together.  They are just so excited to finally be married.  Congratulations to an awesome couple.  We wish you lots of love & success in your marriage.  Thanks for letting The Bride and Groom.com share your love story.
