Why Hire a Wedding Planner

Every bride deserves a wedding planner. As the originator, and principal planner of a growing Utah-based wedding planning company this is the basis of what I set out to accomplish. Prices are amazingly low and reflect the size of the wedding; many times I can save the bride more than my own cost/ billing rate. 2 for 1—How’s that for being frugal! Business hours are such that we can meet with brides at any time, not just between 10 and 2, because brides and grooms have work too.

As the official wedding planner for this year’s $100,000 give-a-way, I’m ultra excited to work with the bride, her family, and all the great vendors that will be working together to pull off the year’s greatest wedding. Some of my services include meeting with the bride to discover her dream wedding and then setting out with her to make her dream become reality. I will play her advocate in every instance making the experience less stressful and much more fun. The best way I can illustrate this is to simply refer you to my facebook and invite you to openly ask past brides what they think of our services.

For some (those not lucky enough to win the Extravangza grand prize give-a-way) dreams and realities lie on opposite spectrums. Are you ready for the summers biggest wedding event?  The Bridal Extravaganza at La Caille is like no other show in the valley.  First of all the setting is unmatched by any other location.  Sitting on 22 acres this French Style Chateau is one of the most picturesque places in Utah.  Secondly no other wedding show rolls out the red carpet like La Caille does.  With servers roaming the show passing out hors de oeuvres, fashion shows from the states best bridal gown companies, musical acts and so much more this is the one summer wedding event you do not want to miss.  Did we mention that one bride will win a $100,000 wedding of her dreams at this show?

Why attend a bridal show?  Save time and money, meet with wedding industry experts, get ideas, and see the latest wedding trends.  We have prepared several bridal show tips to help you get the most out of the show.  Bridal Shows are a fun way for girls to plan their weddings.   In one day you can meet with every type of vendor and see some new ideas you may never have thought of that will help make your wedding day unforgettable.

1.  Arrive early

Those that arrive first to the bridal shows automatically receive some of the coolest prizes.  Many Utah bridal shows offer discounts and incentives for arriving early to the show.  The Upcoming Bridal Extravaganza at La Caille is giving away a 2 night get away to the first 150 brides who arrive. Not a bad deal for just showing up early.

2. Pre-register before the show

Save time by registering before the show.  Registration only takes a few minutes and will save you from having to fill out a registration form at the show.

3. Bring your friends

Bringing your friends to the bridal show will help them feel involved and also give you a chance to bounce ideas back and forth.  Many brides bring their maids of honor and their brides maids to help them with decisions.  Many others will bring their mothers or mothers-in-law as this helps them feel more a part of the planning process.  Plus, in many cases they are the ones paying for it all.

4. Contact info labels

Wedding vendors will often have drawings for prizes at their booths. Instead of having to fill out multiple forms with your contact info, prepare some electronic labels before the bridal show.  Information to include: your name, address, phone number, wedding date and email address.

5. Bring a notebook and pen

Bring a notebook and pen so you can take notes.  Write down contact info of vendors you talked to or thoughts you have while attending the bridal show.  You will visit with a lot of vendors.  Make sure you write down things that really jump out and impress you.  Realize that if you don’t write it down you could likely forget something important.

6. Bring a digital camera

Bringing a simple digital camera will allow you to quickly remember some of the great things you saw at the show.  Did you see a great dress during a bridal fashion show?  Maybe there is a great cake from a wedding cake designer.

7.  Know your budget

Setting your wedding budget and knowing who is responsible for each thing will help you make decisions and know what you are looking for while attending the show.  Shows tend to feature vendors of all kinds that fit into many different wedding budgets.  While one vendor could be more expensive than your budget allows, the next one you meet with could meet your needs just fine.

8. Bring your checkbook

Many wedding vendors will offer a special day-of-the-bridal-show-only discount.  This will help you save even more money if you are able to find your vendor at bridal show.  The Bridal Extravaganza also gives you an additional incentive for booking your vendors at the show.  You can receive a 3 day, 2 night getaway when you book 3 of your vendors at the show!  Most vendors will require a deposit to secure your wedding date.  Please be aware that certain dates fill up very fast so if you find a vendor you want to work with, put the deposit down because chances are if you don’t someone else will book them.

Also, shows sometimes have boutiques where vendors are selling anything from pants, shirts, jewelry, bags etc.  This is a great way for you to pick up gifts for your brides maids or to pick up something extra for your wedding day or for any day.

9.  Do your research

Know which wedding services you need before the show.  Also try to find out which wedding vendors will be exhibiting. This will help you know what questions to ask and allow you to visit those vendors you are particularly interested in.

10. Take part in the prizes offered during the show

Many shows offer prizes that are given away throughout the day and a grand prize drawing at the end of the day.  I know of one bride at a recent show who won three different prizes provided by the show vendors.  Because of it she was able to save almost $1000 on her wedding.  Money she said she used to pay for a honeymoon they didn’t think they would be able to take.  Grand prize drawings at the end of the show are an exciting thing for the brides, imagine having your wedding in a location you never dreamed of or taking a honey moon trip to an all inclusive resort that you never thought you could afford.  These prizes are incredible and one lucky bride will win.  It very well could be you.  The upcoming Bridal Extravaganza also offers a 3 day trip to an all inclusive resort for the brides mother or mother-in-law.  What better thank you gift could you give your mother or mother-in-law then sending them on a vacation of their own.

11. Make a day of it

Plan on attending the bridal show for several hours.  This will allow you to visit all the vendors and find everything you need.    With all the fashion shows, live music, guest speakers and all the free food being passed out you can spend several hours at a show and still feel like you missed something.  Bring your fiancé, let him feel a part of it.  Believe it or not most guys do care about their wedding day, they just pretend they don’t.  Most importantly and above all – have fun!

Maya Beth Frank & Chase Michael Thayer were married at the White Willow Reception Center on June 25th, 2010.  We want to thank Monarch Photography, as well as,  Maya & Chase for sharing their images & information with us.  What a beautiful couple they are for sure.

How they met~ Maya & Chase met at a meeting of AA.  Maya was sick and Chase brought her “medicine tea” and took care of her.  Maya knew right away that Chase was a good guy.  They love to work out together and stay healthy. They go on road trips a lot together to visit their families.   They are practically inseparable  and enjoying every minute of it.

Engagement~ Chase set the perfect setting, Chase sitting in the dark with candles buring, their song “Broken Road” by Rascal Flats,  playing in the background, rose petals & roses everywhere.  Maya knew what was about to happen & dropped her backpack & phone on the floor then began crying before he even had time to get down on one knee.  He popped the big questions and of course she said “YES” and then cried some more.  How sweet is this?

What Maya likes most about Chase~ “The things I like best about Chase is his honesty and loyalty, his openness and the way that he loves me even at my worst. He is my best friend and confidant.”

What Chase likes most about Maya~ “The things I like the most about Maya is her ability to see the best in all situations, her big heart, and loving care for other people and animals…and especially ME!! She is my best friend ”

Wedding Colors~Their wedding colors were black & white with light pink & light green accents. They wanted it simple & elegant with a little hint of color.

Best Memory of Wedding~ “The thing we remember most about our wedding is meeting under the alter, and looking into each others eyes (we were both crying). It was so amazing to stand in front of all of our family and friends and share our love not only with each other but with them as well.”

Photography~ “Our photographer was Ashley Carter from Monarch Photography and she was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! She was so creative and fun, and incredibly sweet. We felt a connection with her right away. Her pictures are so well done, the lighting, the posing. She was up for anything we wanted to do and had TONS of great poses. She is by far the best photographer we have ever worked with. We couldn’t praise her enough!”

Flowers~The White Willow Reception Center did their flowers. They were gorgeous and exactly what they wanted.

Hair & Makeup~ “My hair was done by a friend of ours, and I did my makeup myself. I would tell other brides to make sure to do a run-through on their hair to make sure they have it the way that they want, and as far as makeup I find that I like the way that I do my own makeup better than when someone else does it. My one suggestion is this: wear waterproof mascara!!”

Catering~ White Willow Reception Center did their catering as well, they have a great selection to pick from.

Dress~ “I got my wedding dress at David’s Bridal in LA where we live. I had an idea of what I wanted going into the fitting, so I only tried on two other dresses before I found “the one”. It was super easy!”

Advice for other brides~ “I would tell them to try and enjoy the planning and the fun before the wedding. You will only do this once in your life so soak it all in. Try not to sweat the small stuff, and know that on that day when you are finally walking down the aisle, the only thing that will matter is you and your man; everything else fades away We wouldn’t do a thing differently, it was absolutely everything we could have hoped for!”

We are excited to have one of our great vendors, Amanda, with Slumber Parties, as a featured wedding.  We want to thank Photography by Victoria for sharing her wedding images with us.  Amanda made her wedding just the way she wanted and she had unique ideas like the coffin box’s that held their rings.  I love creative wedding ideas~so fun!

Troy Jones & Amanda Wissler were married on May 22, 2010 at the St. Pauls United Methodist Church in Copperton, Utah.  They had their reception at the Copperton City Lions Club.

Most Memorable~ The most memorable moment for Troy & Amanda is seeing each others faces as Amanda walked down the isle.  Yes, there were definitely tears.

Flowers~ Amanda designed her flower arrangements, and she would suggests this “All I can recommend is not to over analyze them, that’s not the most important thing of the day, although leading up to it you may think so”.

Wedding Cake~ My Wedding cake was baked by A local bakery and my mother decorated them, we wanted our wedding to be fun and unique and so with my design and my mothers crafty abilities my cake turned out better then I could have imagined.

Wedding Sites & Ideas~ Amanda said “I used The Bride and Groom.com for a lot of my ideas and over the past two years I have picked up ideas from the wedding shows with the bridal extravaganza.”

What would you do differently~ “Not stress so much about the little things prior to the wedding and not feeling so rushed after the ceremony.”

Advice from the Bride~ “Don’t sweat the small stuff, easier said then done however all the stressing and being “Bridezilla” only made things more intense.  The day of my wedding I just let things flow and  ended up being the calmest one at the ceremony, until it was time to walk down the isle, then I was shaking like a leaf!  Remember its the first day of the rest of your lives together so don’t let the stress of planning make you question what your doing.  In the end what matters most is that you will develop a whole new love for each other, even stronger then before.”

Jessica & Douglas Waller were married on April 17th, 2010 at Heritage Gardens. This adorable couple met in the sixth grade and Jessica says it was love at first site! They enjoy four wheeling at the sand dunes, going to the park, playing basketball, playing catch, riding long boards, watching movies and trying new places to eat.

We asked Jessica what her most memorable moment from her wedding was and she said that it was a toss up between the cake fight and the dance with her Dad and her new husband.

Engagement~ Douglas & Jessica went to watch fireworks at the West Jordan Park and during the grand finale Douglas told Jessica that they should stand up.  She thought it was a little weird but did it anyway.  Then, Douglas got down on one knee & asked said “Jessica, will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” She obviously said YES!

Honeymoon~ They stayed at the Little America on their first night as a married couple then woke up and went to Moab, where they stayed at the Red Cliff Lodge.

Photographer~ “Our photographer was Bethany Sell with Moments to Remember and I would recommend her to all of my friends she is very personable and she got so many amazing shots of our wedding and we didn’t even know she was there.  She doesn’t rush through the sessions she takes her time and captured us being us in our photos.”

Flowers~ “My Mom & I did all of the flowers.”

Hair~” My hair was done at Sherry K’s by Christine she is amazing at up-dos she was so fast and my hair looked perfect until I took it out.”

Wedding Cake ~ “Heritage Gardens made my cake they do such a great job and they have so many cakes to choose from.”

Dress~ “I found my dress at David’s Bridal I picked three that I thought were pretty and the first one I tried on I knew it was the one.”

Advice to other Brides~ “Take time to find everything they want and not to settle!”

So you are planning your wedding.  Feeling a little overwhelmed.  Not sure where to start and how to get it all done.  Don’t stress, focus on one thing at a time and it will all come to place.

Here are some tips to stay motivated and get it all done before your big day.

1. Create a list~ I know for me that if I have a lot on my plate that I will make a list and cross things off when they are complete.  This way I feel like I am getting things done & making some head way.  Don’t forget to put on the small tasks and cross them off because every little thing makes a difference.

2. Know where to look~ There are many resources out there for you to help you plan your wedding, you just need to know where to look.  Well you are in the right place.  The bride and groom.com can help you get lots of ideas & help you find the right vendors to make your wedding spectacular. 3.  Get help from the GROOM~This is his special day too.  Okay, so he hasn’t been planning your wedding in his mind for years.  And most things he really doesn’t care about.  But he does care about you and making you happy.  So get him involved in the decisions & the planning.  Men can be a great help when it comes to many aspects of his wedding.  If he won’t budge ask him what he is willing to do & try to get his help somewhere.

4. Take time for yourself~ Yes, you have a lot on your mind.  That is why you need to make sure you give yourself a break.  Go do something relaxing for you.  Get a massage, get your nails done, go shopping for a new outfit. Take a hot bubble bath in candle lite.  Something that is just for you.  If you don’t take care of you, you won’t be able to take care of the wedding plans.

5.  Get the family involved~Weddings are a great opportunity for you to get even better relationships with your friends, siblings, your parents & your soon to be in laws.  Talk with family & friends and see if they are willing to help you in some of your wedding details.  You might be surprised who is willing & wanting to help you.

6.  Hire backup~ If all else fails, consider hiring reinforcements.  If you don’t have a wedding planner yet & you are becoming completely overwhelmed, maybe it is time to get some help.  You can check out our wedding planner vendors here.

7. Stay organized~You may think it sounds difficult to be organized when there are so many aspects to keep in line for your wedding.  But keep it all together, keep it simple and make sure you write it all down.  Who is doing what, where you need to go to get certain items, what you need to look for etc…  I kept a binder for my wedding and it made things run a lot more smooth.  You can do this.

8. Have Fun~ This is the most important.  Don’t stress yourself over the minor details of your wedding.  This day will be one you will want to remember all of your life, not remember dreading how stressful it was to get there.  Give your self enough time to plan so that you enjoy all the moments of planning your wedding.  Remember it isn’t about the destination it is about how you actually got there that really matters.

Now that you are engaged you may ask yourself what do I do next.  Well you are in the right place.  The Bride and Groom.com is certainly a GREAT spot to find everything you are looking for.  Here a few things to start with to help you get the ball rolling.

Tip~Give yourselves at least 5 months to plan your wedding~(It is possible to do it in less time, but don’t rush it)  If you are planning to be married during the busy wedding season May through September then plan as early as possible, even up to a year in advance.  These months get booked up early especially for the Thursday, Friday & Saturday Weddings.

Celebrate~Everyone loves to have a reason to party.  Your engagement is a great reason to have one.  Plan a party to celebrate with your friends & family.  You can make it as large or as small as you want.  Allow this party to not have rules, just have a great time celebrating your excitement for your special day.  This party can be a great opportunity to help you figure out who you want as your maid of honor, brides maids and your husbands best man, if you haven’t already figured those details out.

Set A Date~You may want to pick 2 or 3 dates to start out with then narrow it down after researching location, photographer & Officiant, to make sure you get the ones you want.  Once you know what dates they are available then set a date & get things scheduled.

NOTE: When selecting your date if possible to be flexible with your date it may be wise to pick two dates and see if your venue and photographer are available both dates then go from there.  If you need to change your date to get the venue & photographer you want then do it~after all, you only get married once!!

Budget~Creating a budget should be done early in your wedding.  This will help so you know what your priorities are, what you can spend in each area & what you can leave out.  If I may suggest don’t cut your budget in the photography department because those images will be your best way to remember & share your wedding with others. Wedding Planner~ Not every bride hires a wedding planner, but if you are going to do so think about what you want help with.  If you want help planning or just controlling the stress as it gets closer to your wedding.  That way you can know when to hire a coordinator if you chose to have one. Be selective in choosing your wedding planner, make sure they have similar taste as yours or will conform to your style because after all this is your special day.

Venue (location)~ This is one of the first things you will want to take care of.  Keep in mind that Thursday, Friday and Saturday’s are booked fairly early by most venues during the busy wedding season.  As soon as you know where you want to have your wedding &/or reception I recommend calling to reserve your date.  It is best to plan as early as possible to ensure you get the location you want.

Photographer~ After the food is eaten, the decorations are put away, the flowers have wilted and your wedding dress is boxed all you have left is the memories and of course the PICTURES from your special day.  Who you choose as your photographer could ultimately be the most important decision you make for your wedding.  Because most Photography studios only have one or two main photographers it is also best to chose your photographer early on in the planning section.  As you are looking be sure to look at their work. It is important to ask for a complete wedding from start to finish so you can get an idea of what images you will get from your wedding day.  Also be sure to ask about what their editing process is like.  If you chose a photography studio with multiple photographers make sure they show you the work of the photographer that you will be shooting  your wedding.

Officiant~ If you are hiring someone to officiant at your wedding it is important that they get to know you & your fiance. Plan time to meet with your officiant before hand to let them get a chance to know about you as a couple and be able to make your ceremony personalized to you.  Check with your officiant to see if they are willing to meet with you.

Videography~ Having a video from your wedding is such a great idea.  (I love mine & my kids love watching it too.)  There are lots of GREAT videographers out there so be sure you check out their work.  A talented videographer will be able to show you what they have done in the past & give you some ideas of what they can do for you & your wedding.  There are many options and you don’t have to pay a fortune.  Decide what it is that you want photo montage, date & interview, wedding ceremony, wedding highlights or the full thing.

Dress~ It is important to find a dress early enough that you have time for alterations.  Sometimes it can take a month or two to have the dress back from alterations so make sure you plan accordingly.

Bridal show~Attend Bridal shows to get some ideas of what you want at your wedding.  We recommend the Bridal Extravaganza shows.  They have incredible vendors there & lots of fun ideas for your wedding, plus they have incredible prizes. Go here for the information on the next bridal show.

Rings~ I love looking at wedding rings.  This was one of my favorite parts of planning.  I am all for letting the guy pick out the diamond but let’s face it girls we have to wear it for the rest of our lives so you want something you will LOVE forever.  Guys, go ring shopping together & try some on for fun.  You don’t have to be officially engaged to do this, but make sure you know that she is the one before taking her shopping for one.

Invitations~ There are so many creative ways you can do invitations.  If you have a themed wedding you can always use your theme when creating the perfect invite.   Traditional invites are always classy.  You can always do homemade cards but this can be a ton of work depending on how many invitations you are sending.  When budging keep in mind postage because that part adds up quickly.

Flowers~ I love flowers!!! Having the perfect bridal bouquet can really set up the color scheme for your wedding.  Keep your colors in mind when choosing flowers to have in your bouquet.  Your florist will be able to help you with just the right thing.  (Keep in mind that many flowers come in different shades and your florist won’t be able to control what shade they will have.)  To see an article about different flowers go here.

Cake~ Wedding cakes are so fun.  I love to look at wedding cakes especially when they are unique.  There are so many fun things you can do with your cake.  We had a fun blog a couple months ago designated to cakes.  One of our incredible vendors shared some great information with us, you can check that out here.

Caterer~When looking for a caterer you need to decide what it is you are wanting to serve.  There are many options, dessert buffets, candy buffets, appetizer buffets, or the full meal buffets.  Many brides don’t like the buffet style but when you are having hundreds of people a buffet is typically more affordable.   Your food for your wedding reception will be different from your wedding luncheon or dinner.  The wedding luncheon or dinner (whichever you choose to have) is typically a plated event, although I have seen those buffet style as well depending on how many guests are invited.

Decorations~ The way your wedding is decorated can really reflect the feel of your entire wedding. Some venues will provide linens for you, be sure to coordinate with them before hiring service else where.  If your venue doesn’t have the color you are wanting or they don’t provide that then the hunt is on.  There are some incredible wedding decorators, be sure their style matches what you are looking for.

Music~ There are many options when it comes to music.   Decide what it is you like as a couple and go from there.  If you are planning to have dancing a DJ is always fun to throw in the mix.  They make the party so much fun.  If you are wanting more intimate quiet affair think about having a soft musician to play in the background.  Music  is always a great touch to a wedding.

Tux’s~ Groom’s, it is your turn.  You can pick out the look & style you want since this is your wedding too.  Be sure you have your fiance’s approval on your apparel since your pictures will surely be impacted by what you wear.

Honeymoon~ Make sure you go on a honeymoon.  I hear many couples say we just can’t afford it.  Let me tell you that you may never go again.  Life happens, whether it is school, kids or work be sure to take time away to celebrate your new marriage.  Even if it is a short, close to home get away.  A honeymoon is important.

Transportation~ How fun is it to see those gorgeous vintage vehicles or a carriage at weddings.  Love them!! There is always the famous limo that can be an option for you to drive in style on your special day.

Odds & Ends~ Don’t forget about the small details, the sign in book, gifts for your bridesmaids, wedding favors.  These small details often get placed near the end.  If you are ordering something be sure to give enough time for it to come & return if it isn’t quite what you were looking for.

This beautiful couple is Brittany Richards & Brandon Brown.  They met at Weber State University 5 years ago in a business class.  They love to do everything together.  They really love the outdoors, hiking, biking, camping, and  fishing.  They also enjoy going to the gym, playing racquetball, making crafts and doing crossword puzzles.

What Brittany likes most about Brandon: “He makes me laugh and we do so many fun things.”

What Brandon likes most about Brittany: “She is so fun and makes me a better person.”

Brandon & Brittany were married on April 17, 2010 at the Salt Lake Temple and they had their reception at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

The Proposal: Brittany enjoys watching Amazing Race, (the only show she does watch) so Brandon had her go on a miniature amazing race with a tape recorder of him telling of their favorite places.  He sent her to their first kiss locations, the first “I love you” location etc..  and the end he was there to propose.  GREAT idea Brandon!!

Wedding Colors: Their wedding colors are, black, bright green and a little eggplant purple

Cake: Carrie’s Cakes is doing her cake.

Flowers: Cedar Village Floral is doing her flowers & she said they really know their stuff.

Advice from Brittany: Have Fun!

Brandon & Brittany are excited for their honey moon in Puerto Rico. We asked them what big plans they have after the honeymoon and they are planning to do a triathlon but most of all they are just  excited to be married, travel together, and enjoy their life together as best friends.

What a great time we had at last weeks Bridal Extravaganza at the South Towne Expo Center.  We would like to thank all those who participated in and attended the show last week.

Brides began to line up as early as 7:30 in the morning and the show didn’t open until 11:00.

From the moment the doors opened until the they closed the show was packed.

We would like to thank all 115 vendors who participated in the show.

Congratulations to Holly Uphold who was the grand prize winner of the trip to the All Inclusive El Dorado Resort in the Mayan Riviera and also to Janna Vannoy who won the mother of the bride trip to the same resort.
