I have been hearing more and more about people wanting to have a vintage wedding. The vintage style dress is becoming really popular. It is a fun look for a bride that wants to be different from the traditional bride. You don’t have to have everything vintage if you just want the look for you & your groom. But if you want to go all all out on the themed wedding then by all means, Do it! I have been seeing more and more of the blushers rather than the wedding veil and the shorter wedding dresses are ever so hip. So whatever you style make it yours.

The vintage look is a fun, flirty look that many brides are falling in love with. One of our amazing bridal gown vendors, Modest Couture by Elizabeth will be giving us more information about dresses soon, so be sure to check back soon.

Last Weeks Bridal Extravaganza

What a great time we had at last weeks Bridal Extravaganza at the South Towne Expo Center. We would like to thank all those who participated in and attended the show last week.

Brides began to line up as early as 7:30 in the morning and the show didn’t open until 11:00.

From the moment the doors opened until the they closed the show was packed.

We would like to thank all 115 vendors who participated in the show.

FIRST THINGS FIRST
Every girl knows that if you don’t want to get caught strangling a bridesmaid or pulling your own hair out you MUST have a great wedding planner. Think of it as, The “Thelma to your Louise” or “Your partner in crime”. Planning any wedding is a lot of fun and a lot of work but “celebrity weddings” are a big bite to swallow. No worries I assure you that I have found the best in Utah…. Tori Beesley. She has been nothing short of wonderful and has been by my side with her helpful information and “making things happen” all along the journey. She continues to outshine any event designer I have ever worked with and I wouldn’t have anyone else for the job!

THE CAKE
We picked our cake today! I am so excited with our choice; she is nothing short of miraculous. This will be her second time having her work published in PEOPLE magazine and from what I hear she is the best in the west. I can’t tell you too much (don’t want to spoil the surprise but I came to her with a pretty over the top idea. After looking through her work I realized it was nothing for her. There was everything from Mad Hatter cakes to extravagant cakes and the taste… Oh my goodness! They were some of the best tasting cakes I have ever had. There were so many selections to choose from so that there will be something for everyone. I am so happy we found her and I know that when they bring out that cake at my wedding it will be nothing short of STUNNING! Check her out at Carries Cakes.

BRIDESMAID DRESSES
I don’t even know how to express how much I love the designer who is doing my bridesmaid dresses. I love her work so much that I turned away other designers and had her design and custom make My High School Musical 3 premiere dress! (Check it out on the red carpet at wireimage.com and type in KayCee Stroh). Her name is Nancy Barrus you might know her from Nancy Barrus Couture she makes custom made wedding dresses, evening gowns and anything else your heart desires.
Now to understand how incredible these bridesmaid dresses are, you have to know a little bit more about what I wanted these girls to experience. I realize that I am very lucky and get to dress up in some of the most expensive and beautiful designer dresses you could imagine. There is nothing like walking into the Emmy’s with your hair and makeup done by some of the best in the business and wearing a gorgeous gown. Let me just say…you feel so beautiful! So many women unfortunately don’t get the opportunity to experience this so on my special day I wanted my bridesmaids to feel just as pretty as I do. Nancy Barrus has done it! Every girl no matter what shape or size is going to look like they are going to the Oscar’s. If you want that feeling on your special day Nancy is the one for you!

PHOTOGRAPHY
We did it! We chose our photographer and had our engagement pictures taken!
I have had photo shoots with some of the best in the business and Swensen Photography is up there with all of them. They took plenty of the traditional engagement shots but really stood out with there creative and artsy pictures. They are so beautiful!
Picking your photographer is the biggest decision in your wedding and where you should invest the most. Remember girls…you can never have these moments back. I am so excited to be working with these award winning photographers and I know there will not be one moment not accounted for!

FLOWERS
Have you ever looked at pictures of your relatives or friends wedding and said “Really?” That is exactly what I don’t ever want to do with my own. Now I have a special challenge as I am having a January wedding, so anything too flowery is just going to look odd with the snow falling outside the windows. I wanted something really unique for the season that no one had ever done before and with the help of Imperial Floral we have conquered! Out of all the things I am most excited to show off at my wedding it is going to be or creative centerpiece and bouquet designs. I never realized what an important part the flowers play in a wedding but now I see they are EVERYTHING. The flowers and décor set the ambience for the whole event and can really make a statement. Of course I chose something very over the top and not exactly easy to do but I know that Imperial Floral is going to outshine even the best of Hollywood!

INVITATIONS
I have received so many beautiful invitations in my day (award shows, Hollywood birthdays etc) but I have never been so pleased to find Pink Piggy Designs! There work is absolutely above and beyond the rest. The traditional invites are good but Pink Piggy’s are creative, unique and anything but your grandma’s. Each design is custom made differently for every couple so that you are sure you won’t see anything exactly like them. I really like that. My invites mean a lot to me, they are being sent to some pretty important people so it’s crucial that they are absolutely beautiful. I received them today and let me just say…GORGEOUS! I love love love everything they have done and wouldn’t work with anyone else!

Cultural Weddings – Catholic Wedding Ceremony

The Roman Catholic wedding rite takes place with the Sacrament of Matrimony. The ceremony consists of at least three bible readings, the exchange of vows, the exchange of rings, the Prayer of the Faithful, the nuptial blessing, prayers and appropriate music.

The Processional

First the groom and best man enter from the side of the church. Then the bridesmaids and groomsmen escort one another up the aisle, followed by the maid of honor, who enters alone. Finally, the bride and her father make their entrance up the aisle.

The Ceremony

After the processional, the priest greets the bride and groom and their guest and offers an opening prayer.

The liturgy of the word includes readings from the Old and New Testaments, a re-sponsorial psalm, the alleluia before the Gospel, and a Gospel reading. The selections may be read by the priest or by friends or family of the bride and groom.

The homily elaborates on the marriage theme. If the priest knows the couple well, he may include personal references in his homily.

You have at least three choices. You can memorize and recite the vows to one another, read the vows from the book, or have the priest read them and respond with “I do.” Some priests might allow you to write your own vows or add a couple lines to the traditional ones.

After you exchange vows, you’ll exchange rings and the priest will bless them as symbols of your love and fidelity. The best man, who usually has both rings, gives the bride’s ring to the priest, who blesses it and gives it to the groom, who places it on the bride’s finger. After the bride receives her ring, the blessing and presentation will be repeated for the groom’s ring.

The Prayer of the Faithful follows which may also include personal prayer by the couple. During a Mass, the Liturgy of the Eucharist is said at this time. Those who are chosen to bring gifts of wine and bread to the altar carry out their role at this point and the liturgy begins.
The priest then offers the Nuptial Blessing.

The conclusion of a wedding is the Lord’s Prayer and a Blessing. At a Mass, the service ends with a Blessing and Dismissal.

The Recessional

The recessional occurs in the reverse order of the processional, starting with the newly married bride and groom.

Cultural Weddings – Greek Wedding Traditions

A Greek wedding is an event that you will always remember. The ceremony is filled with symbolism and ancient traditions and the reception is an exciting party that goes well into the night. Imagine the scene of a full dance floor of upbeat dancing, not letting up for a second.

The Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony is an ancient service that has been celebrated in its current form for centuries. The ceremony is full of symbolism to reflect the elements of a successful marriage – love, mutual respect, equality and sacrifice.

The wedding ceremony itself consists of two parts which are distinct and separate from each other: The Service of Betrothal and the Ceremony of the Sacrament of Marriage. Each thing in the ceremony has special meaning and significance, particularly the repetition of each act three times – symbolizing the Holy Trinity: God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The wedding begins as white candles are handed to the bride and groom symbolizing the couples willingness to receive Christ.

Service of Betrothal

The exchanging of rings is the focus of the Service of Betrothal. The priest blesses the rings by holding them in his right hand and making the sign of the cross over the heads of the bride and groom. The rings are then placed on the third fingers of their right hands. The Koumbaro , swaps the rings over between the bride and groom’s fingers, three times.

In the Greek Orthodox religion, the best man is replaced by a Koumbaros, who must be a member in good standing of the church, and has extended duties during the ceremony.

Ceremony of the Sacrament of Marriage

The Ceremony of the Sacrament of Marriage consists of several parts – petitions, prayers, the crowning, readings from the New Testament, the offering of the common cup, the circling of the ceremonial table and the benediction. At the conclusion of the prayers, the priest joins the right hands of the bride and groom. Their hands remain joined until the end of the wedding ceremony, which symbolizes the couple’s union.

The Crowning

The crowning is the focal point of the marriage ceremony. The bride and groom are crowned with thin crowns, called stefana, which are joined by a white ribbon and have been blessed by the priest. The crowns symbolize the glory and honor that is being bestowed on them by God, and the ribbon symbolizes their unity. The Koumbaro then exchanges the crowns between the heads of the couple, three times.

The Common Cup

The crowning is followed by a reading of the Gospel, which tells of the marriage of Cana at Galilee. It was at this wedding that Jesus performed his first miracle, changing water into wine, which was then given to the married couple. Wine is given to the couple and they each drink from it three times.

The Ceremonial Walk

The priest the leads the bride and groom in a circle around the alter three on their first steps as a married couple. Tthe church, in the person of the priest, leads them in the way they must walk. The way is symbolized by the circleat the center of which are the Gospel and the symbolic cross of the Lord. The Koumbaro follows close behind the couple holding the stefana in place.

The Removal of the Crowns

When the Ceremonial Walk has ended, the priest blesses the couple, the crowns are removed and he then separates their previously joined hands with the bible, reminding them that only God can break the union which they have just entered into.

Dancing in the Moonlight

There is perhaps no more memorable element of a Greek wedding celebration than the dancing. It begins with the kalamatiano, a traditional handkerchief dance. The bride and groom dance together, connected only by the scarf or handkerchief that each holds by an end. Eventually, they invite others to join in the dancing, which can go on for hours.
