Exactly My Type

Sparks flew when Brian came to the dentist for a cleaning.  While Katie was cleaning Brian’s teeth they couldn’t stop talking – and flirting.   By the end of the day, they were on their first date, a trip to Coldstone and a movie.

Katie’s favorite part of the date – Brian’s text after the date. “He let me know how much fun he had with me and told me how excited he was to see me again. My heart just melted!!”

The Proposal

Brian called Katie while she was at work and casually asked if she wanted to go see a movie and grab a bite to eat at The Chef’s Table.

After dinner they were casually chatting while awaiting the check.  Katie was completely oblivious to what was about to happen. The waiter brought 3 individually wrapped long stem red roses each representing a time in their relationship.  On the rose representing their future, there was a note that said “Will you marry me?”

Brian got on one knee and asked, “Katie Cordano, will you marry me?” Katie replied with much excitement, “You bet I will!!” With a shaking hand Brian slid the perfect ring on her finger.

Marzipan Wedding CakeWedding Planning

Wedding inspiration came from a picture of a beautiful gold and cream colored cake. When Katie met with the invitation designer to create her wedding announcements, she showed her the picture of the cake.  Together they created a monogram with some details from the cake which then led to many more ideas.

The Wedding Cake

Growing up in a Scandinavian household, Brian was exposed to the elegant desserts and pastries that went along with the culture.  While meeting with Barbara, the cake designed, she began explaining her signature wedding cake called Marzipan.  Brian interrupted saying, “this is the cake we need to have.”  After a quick taste test Katie agreed that it would be perfect for the classy wedding they were planning.

The Dress

Katie went shopping for wedding dresses at several bridal shops before deciding that what she really needed was a custom designed wedding dress.  She contacted Penelope’s Custom Wedding Gowns in Salt Lake and explained to her the dress she had pictured.   From there, Penelope perfectly constructed the perfect wedding dress.

The Flowers

Katie wanted to keep with the theme of an elegant, classic, winter wedding. With this in mind, she selected a wedding bouquet filled with an assortment of cream flowers. At the reception, cream rose petals adorned the tables.

Salt Lake Temple WeddingThe Wedding – Salt Lake, Utah LDS Temple

Brian & Katie were married at the Salt Lake Temple on a cold winter day.  The snow was softly falling as they took beautiful pictures around the temple grounds.

The Reception – Joseph Smith Memorial Building

Guests arrived at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building for an elegant dinner.  Their arrival was accompanied by Italian themed music being played on an accordion. Brian and Katie were announced for the first time with “You’ve got a friend in me” playing in the background.

A Perfect Atmosphere

During the dinner, the Maid of Honor and Best Man gave toasts.  As the wedding guests enjoyed dinner, the bride and groom’s favorite Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong and other classic hits played in the background.

Cream linens and cream flowers with gold accents were perfect for the classic winter wedding the bride had dreamt about.  Lights were slightly dimmed so the candles that were lit gave a gold glow throughout the room.  To add to the beautiful decorations inside, there was an amazing view of the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Wedding First DanceGet Your Dance On

After dinner they went straight into dancing.  The bride and groom danced to Louis Armstrong’s “A Kiss to Build a Dream On” for their first dance.  Throughout the rest of the celebration, the DJ played upbeat music to keep the party going.  Above the dance floor there was a 10’x10’ screen playing their wedding video.

Had to Have It

Brian had limited interest in the details of the wedding day.  One thing he did care about was getting a chocolate fountain for the reception. Brian was so excited about the idea that “no” was not an option.

A Personal Touch

It was important to the bride and groom that their friends and family knew how much it meant that they were there to share this special day with them. To express their gratitude they wrote a thank you note and had it placed on each place setting for the guests.

For favors, they provided everyone with a boxed slice of cake and a CD compiled with some of their favorite songs.

Best Part of the Day – Everything

“I can’t choose just one thing! The entire day was more perfect than I expected!”

New York, Here We Come!

Brian’s dad surprised the newlyweds with an all-inclusive honeymoon to New York City!  He set up daily activities, reservations for meals, etc. They saw three shows on Broadway and a NY Giants football game. “Truly once in a lifetime trip!” recalls Katie.
