Paul & Heidi had a beautiful summer wedding. Their wedding ceremony was held at the Salt Lake temple with the reception at a residence in Salt Lake City.
A water-fight, walk on the beach, and a carriage ride. What do these three things have in common? They are each a monumental occasions leading up to Heidi and Paul’s sleek and classy wedding.
Heidi, a Student, and Paul, an Electrical Engineer, met during a single’s church activity one afternoon, which was, of all things, a water fight. Later that evening, the church activity was finished up with a dance. Paul held out, and saved his very last dance for Heidi. After the dance, the two exchanged phone numbers not knowing what the future had in store for them!
After only a short time, Paul called Heidi and asked her out on a date. Their first date was one for the storybooks! They went out to dinner, and afterwards went hand-in-hand for a walk on the beach at Oceanside Pier in California. What a romantic first date!
The Proposal
The proposal is another story in itself! The couple had flown in to Utah to visit Heidi’s family, and anyone in Utah knows there is not a more beautiful place on earth than Temple Square! Paul took Heidi on a carriage ride around Salt Lake City; it was on this ride that he had planned on asking Heidi to marry him- but was deterred due to the unromantic atmosphere of watching a man being arrested by police from their carriage. So, a quick thinker, Paul sat his soon-to-be fiancé on the fireplace of the romantic restaurant he had planned on for dinner that evening, and asked Heidi to marry him. She was ecstatic, and of course said yes!
The Wedding
The bride and groom were married in the Salt Lake City Temple; where Heidi will tell you, much to the on-lookers amusement, Paul tripped down the temple stairs on their way out! Heidi’s dress was a pearl white, crushed satin dress, with ruching around the skirt, and a sweetheart neckline. Her hair was pulled back into a sleek style, which sets the tone for much of her reception!
The Wedding Reception
Her reception was held at the Flamm Residence in Salt Lake City. The theme for the couple’s reception, was as Heidi so simply put it, “sleek, casual, and classy.” She wanted her special day to reflect a traditional theme. The predominant colors of décor were fig green, black and crème; which set a crisp, and clean feeling everywhere you turned. Soft jazz music played throughout the reception. “Chill and relaxed,” is how Heidi describes herself and her husband, which is a feeling they wanted their guests to share.
The couple’s cake fit the tastes of even the pickiest eater. A four-tier cake with alternating layers of lemon-poppy seed, and Belgian chocolate, sat beneath layers of smooth icing. Small dots surrounded the edge of the cake, and a beautiful spray of orchids sat on the top.
A neighborhood friend, who Heidi calls a “great cook” did the catering for the reception. Guests were treated with a tossed green salad, pasta salad with lemon and dill, fresh rosemary focaccia bread, and lemon chicken with garlic and capers. Although the newlyweds did not get to eat much at the reception, as most couples do not, what they did try was “wonderful!”
Heidi describes her wedding day as, “the best day of my life. It was just such a momentous occasion!” This couple had a courtship full of romance, a sweetly planned proposal, and a wedding to remember!
