Shara Debenham & Stephen Blunck were married April 30th, 2010 in the Draper Temple. They are such a great couple & we wanted to share their story with you. We want to thank Swensen Photography for providing their beautiful images with us.
How they met~ Shara & Stephen were in the same ward at BYU in the fall of 2007. However, Stephen had seen a picture of Shara before they ever met. Shara went on study abroad with Stephen’s brother-in-law’s sister to Romania. While they were on study abroad the sister in-law sent a picture of the two of them to Stephen’s family. When Stephen returned home from his mission he found the photo on the fridge and thought to himself that he would really like to date a girl like that. It just so happened that they ended up in the same ward. Stephen was interested in Shara right away, Shara fell for him when he came by unexpectedly to bring her soup, tissues and cough drops when she had caught a cold. What a sweetheart. They dated for 2 years before they got engaged.
Stephen & Shara love the outdoors. They love taking walks, hikes or just going to the park. They are excited to travel together as they both love to travel. They are always up for new adventures and love supporting in each other in their respective hobbies. Shara loves to ballroom dance & Stephen plays intramural sports.
What Shara said about Stephen~ “There are so many things I like about Stephen! He is positive, upbeat, and kind to others. He is fun, outgoing, and exciting! He is super sensitive to my needs, is extremely forgiving, is a great communicator, and is a great problem solver! He is extremely motivated, determined, and hard-working. He is also extremely spiritual and knows where his priorities should be. He can always cheer me up no matter how bad of a mood I’m in! He also does kind things for me all the time. He brings bouquets of flowers to my dance concerts, leaves cards and roses on my car, brings me ice cream when I have a late night of schoolwork, spends hours helping me study for my tests, and is just super supportive and loving! I’m so lucky to be marrying him!”
What Stephen said about Shara~ “I can hardly pick just one thing about Shara that I like most because she is such an amazing person! But if I have to pick just one…I would say that Shara is honestly the most caring, thoughtful, and loving person I have ever met. She has a way making me and everyone she meets feel special beyond compare. Whenever I am with her I cannot help but feel happy and blessed beyond compare that she is willing to marry me! And I have noticed that her caring attitude extends to everyone that she meets. She is constantly doing nice things for others to help lift the burdens that they carry. As she helps others, my love for her continues to grow!”
Engagement~ “ One day in early October of 2009, I walked out the front door of my apartment to find a rose on my doorstep. Throughout the day, I found roses for me everywhere I went (on my car, on my desk at school, etc., etc.). Later that night while I was waiting to meet up with Stephen on BYU campus, I was suddenly approached by three guys in dark suits and sunglasses (Stephen’s roommates). They blindfolded me, grabbed my backpack, and escorted me along for about 10-15 minutes. They wouldn’t say anything to me while we walked! Eventually they told me to sit down and I realized I was at a place on campus that was a special place for Stephen and me. It was a lovely fountain on campus and Stephen and I had walked there many times during our courtship. Stephen’s roommates ran off and I heard music turn on. When Stephen took off the blindfold, I found that he had placed candles all along the front of the fountain and in a big semi-circle around us. Stephen asked me to dance and after we danced he had hot chocolate for me because it was chilly outside. Stephen then proceeded to tell me a story he had made up (he tells great stories) and as he told the story, he handed me a rose at different parts of the story. Finally when he had run out of roses, he got down on his knee and proposed! I could hardly see because I was crying I was so happy!”
Wedding colors~ Dark pink and baby blue.
Location for reception: They had a luncheon at Millennial Falls and a reception at Heritage Gardens. They will also be doing another reception in Oregon in Stephen’s parents’ backyard in June.
Photographer~ “Our photographer is Swensen Photography and we are thrilled to have them take our wedding photos! Clark took our engagement photos and Justin took my bridal pictures. We enjoyed working with Clark and Justin and we love how our photos turned out. We were very impressed with how quickly we were able to see our photos after the photo shoots. In my opinion, one of the very most important decisions to make when planning a wedding is who your photographer will be. This is because your memory of your wedding day will eventually fade, but you will always have your pictures! We are so glad our memories will be preserved with Swensen Photography!”
Cake: Heritage Gardens made her cake, Shara’s sister had her cake made by Heritage Gardens & it turned out really cute.
Wedding Dress: Allyse’s Bridal in Orem, and her headback from Frenze. Shara fell in love with the first dress she tried on. I know it is shocking but it can happen. Shara even shocked herself. She didn’t think it would have been that easy to find her wedding dress.
Rings: Wilson Diamonds in Provo (Shara received 40% discount on Stephen’s ring since Stephen purchased her ring there.)
Flowers~ “My florist goes by Wheezy and she is amazing! She does flowers out of her home just for fun and her prices are unbeatable! She did my sister’s wedding in February for a great price and the flowers were gorgeous! She does not have a website and gets her business simply through word of mouth. Her home is in Murray, Utah and her phone number is 801-746-9252.”
Jewelery: Shara purchased her necklace and earrings at The Bridal Shop, located in Provo.
Tux: They rented their tux’s from Black Tie Tuxedos. Didn’t they look sharp?
Invitations~ They ordered their invitations from Costco. They were very inexpensive & they were pleased with how they turned out.
Honeymoon~We are just going to St. George for a few days because I will be in school. We plan to do our real honeymoon next summer and go on a cruise or take a trip to South America!
Advice from the Bride~ “Lots of people will try to tell you what they think you should do with your wedding. Be considerate and open to ideas, but remember that your wedding should reflect the style and personality of you and your fiancé, not the style and personality of everyone else! Many of the decisions I made regarding my wedding were originally opposed by others because they were not traditional, but I am really happy with how everything turned out!”
Congratulations to Stephen & Shara. We wish you a very happy marriage together. Thanks for letting thebrideandgroom.com share your wedding.
