Wade & Julz~Featured Utah Wedding~Vintage Themed Wedding

Utah Events by Design presents:

Wade and Julz, September 10th

Being the owner of Utah Events by Design, I have had the privilege of working with some fantastic couples. And this year, I’ve had my fair share of designing some really fun vintage-themed weddings.  “Vintage” has been such a popular wedding theme among Utah brides lately, but during the past year, I have found that “vintage” means something a little different to every bride. So when Julz and Wade first approached me in February about designing their “vintage-style” wedding, my first question for them was “What does vintage mean to you?”

After a few design consultations, I quickly learned that for Julz and Wade, “vintage” meant capturing the simplistic elegance of earlier American times while still paying tribute to their Scottish heritage; and, I was up for the challenge.

From silky stockings and pearls to fedoras and suspenders, Julz and Wade had a personal style that I couldn’t help but fall in love with. And the best part is that they were willing to incorporate this personality throughout all the details of their wedding starting with their fantastic engagement photos taken by D’Andrew Photography at Hill Air Force Base:

Their engagement photos turned out amazing and provided My Utah Invitations with enough material to produce these fabulous, custom wedding invitations which immediately set the tone for the vintage-themed excitement that was in store when guests arrived:

The Ceremony

As the day kicked off to a great start, Julz and her brides maids were busy getting all dolled up by the talented Kristen Packard, Make Up Artist and her preferred hair dresser, Candace Larsen. Kristen recently traveled to LA to do makeup for the 2011 Emmys (yes ladies, that is how good she is)!

The setting for the ceremony was truly amazing. Julz and Wade selected the breath-taking Wadley Farms as their venue (one of my favorite wedding venues) which provided the perfect backdrop to an intimate and personalized ceremony delivered by Rev Kamrin Carver.

As guests arrived, they were immediately entertained by the lovely sound of bagpipe music played by Dave Glad while they relaxed in chairs adorned with scarlet red chair sashes provided by Purely Linens.

Both vintage and personal elements were brought in throughout the event design such as the vintage perfume bottles, chic hatboxes and elegant pearls which adorned the card table as guests entered the event.

In addition to the lovely card table, Julz mounted a collection of stunning photos from her bridal session with D’Andrew Photography in a vintage red window frame and various stained glass windows. These frames brought her bridals to life and made for a stunning display for guests to admire when they arrived.

Fashion was also an important part of this Scottish-Vintage wedding. To incorporate both the bride and groom’s Scottish heritage, the groom and groomsman wore the Royal Stewart plaid tartan with the family kilt pin. Julz’s brother and the Reverend wore the Blue and Green Back Watch plaid with her family’s kilt pin. And, the traditional, Scottish hand-fasting ceremony was performed which included a ring exchange and a sand ceremony to involve Julz and Wade’s children in their special union.

You might have noticed the popular Converse shoes worn by the groom and his groomsmen. Although not exactly Scottish, Converse have been Wade’s shoes of choice for years so it was more than appropriate for him to sport these at the wedding. And the best part is that Wade’s 80 year old father wore them too!

After the ceremony, guests dined on amazing food provided by Culinary Concepts Catering. Both a beautiful luncheon was made available as well as a dessert buffet filled with all sorts of decadent bite-sized favorites. And might I add, not only was the presentation of this food stylish and fitting for the event, it was deliciously yummy as well!!!

Julz and Wade were married on September 10th and it was important for them that their floral selections demonstrated Utah’s beautiful fall colors. The couple selected a variety of simple yet amazing flowers for both her wedding bouquet and those of the bridal party. All of these amazing flowers were provided by 5 Penny Floral. And to help save on cost, the bouquets carried by the brides maids were used after the ceremony as accent pieces on the luncheon buffet. Reusing the bridal party’s wedding bouquets is one of the easiest ways to save costs on extra floral décor.

After the ceremony and luncheon, the bride and groom took some time to pose for pictures which included shots with a stunning 1936 vintage Pontiac provided by a close family friend. What a fun backdrop this car made for some gorgeous wedding photos!!!

The Reception

The reception was full of good food, lovely decorations, and wonderful music. To help set the scene, tables were covered with taupe poly linens and topped with vintage table cloths that Julz had collected from various antique shops in Utah. Each topper was a different shape and pattern which helped us to achieve a legitimate vintage look.

Table décor consisted of old frames displaying the variety of the couple’s fun engagement session and draped in pearls, fresh flowers in vintage blue mason jars, and an authentic collection of vintage, gold hair brush, comb and mirror sets that doubled as the bride’s gifts to her bride’s maids.

The air was filled with a variety of music ranging from older classics to current songs and guests danced the night away. Special thanks to “The Bandits” from Utah Jive for providing some awesome entertainment, and more specifically, for learning Julz and Wade’s first dance song: The Dirty Glass by the Drop Kick Murphy’s. Very impressive!!!

Overall, this wedding was simply one of my favorites to be a part of! It was a beautiful wedding laced with Scottish tradition, vintage flare and personal elements that really captured the personality the bride and groom. What a joy it was to work with this lovely couple! And, all of us here at Utah Events by Design wish them all the best as they head into their future together.
