This adorable couple Tyler & Tara were married April 7, 2010 at Wheeler Farm in Salt Lake City, Utah.  They chose to have a simple, spring wedding where they exchanged their vows with a very intimate group of close friends and family.  Tara wore a tea length dress with adorable cowboy boots.  I love her single sun flower bouquet, so sweet & simple.  Tyler & Tara wanted to make the wedding arrangements simple and focus on what they are really their for, their commitment to each other.  I wanted to show this wedding as a great change & idea.  You don’t have to go all out to make your day special.  Do what feels good & right to you.  Special thanks to Opie Foto for sharing this wedding with us.

BEFORE THE WEDDING
Occupations: Both work for the State of Utah, Division of Child and Family Services, which is also how they met.

Proposal: Tyler proposed on a cliff overlooking St. George. He made me a scrapbook with tickets of places they had been.  The last page asked the big question. Tara obviously said “YES”!

THE WEDDING

The bride wore: Ivory tea length dress

The groom wore: Black traditional tux with latte and ivory accents.

HONEYMOON

Place: San Francisco

A memorable moment of the honeymoon: When they got their picture drawn at the Wharf. Hilarious!

WEDDING ADVICE:
“Hopefully you will never have to do a second wedding like us, but if so do it quick and easy and cheap! It was much more fun that way!”

SOURCES

Rings: Jareds and The Shane company

Photography: OpieFoto

Bridal gown: David’s Bridal

Groom’s Tux/Suit: Tuxedo’s by Lee

Flowers: Willows and Wildflowers

Venue: Wheeler Farm

We could not resist blogging about this amazing engagement shoot.    It is a themed shoot based around the Disney/Pixar movie “Up”.  This couple loved the movie so much that they decided to create their engagement using the idea from the movie.  I have to admit that we just watched the movie recently & I loved it.  It is a really cute movie,  a must see for sure.  We contacted Joy Harmon Prouty, with Wildflowers Photography,  who is the talented photographer who helped create this incredible shoot.   We want to thank her for sharing her talent with us.

I couldn’t tell you the story better, so here is what Joy shared about this cute couple & creative shoot:

“The movie, “UP!” is a quirky love story that begins with Carl and Ellie meeting as children, falling in love and embracing the trials of life with that same childlike excitement.  the movie recounts the beauty of the simple things they enjoyed together… picnics under their favorite tree, finding pictures in the big puffy clouds, grape soda, painting their house, sitting next to one another in their favorite chairs and dreaming of going one day to paradise falls – the dreamland they had saved their pennies to travel to since they were children.  the darling twosome had saved (he had a balloon cart at the zoo and she was a zoo tour guide) in a big glass jug that they had to break over and over again to pay for house repairs, flat tires and hospital bills… and sadly, sweet ellie passed away before they could ever make it to paradise falls.  it is then that carl wakes up one day and decides to tie thousands of balloons to his house to float to paradise falls on his own (and you will have to watch the movie to find out the rest)!  i will say that at the end of it all, you see that when you find the love your heart has ached for your whole life, you don’t need a floating house for the adventure of a lifetime.  :)   the idea of this photo shoot came from lynnette and james, the sweet engaged couple featured here.  their favorite movie is UP and i really could not pick a movie that could remind me more of them than that one.   their love is genuine, comfortable and full of joy.  i really do see them sitting on the park bench together, in 40 years, holding hands, laughing hysterically and holding a big bunch of balloons.  if the photos don’t convince you that these two will stand the test of time, read this INCREDIBLY touching letter that james wrote to lynnette and so kindly shared with me to share with all of you (break out your hankies, girls):”

“Lynnette… I have a confession, I am in love with you.  It is not the ‘usual’ love, but the love that makes me remember the little things, the ‘boring’ things.  It is the boring things in life that I will remember the most.  The memories of jumping over sidewalk cracks to how the clouds talk to us.  You make me remember the moments.  It is that love that makes me believe.  Belief that I was there when you were a toothless kid.  Dancing through life, only stopping to hold my hand. Letting me know that anything is possible.  I am in love with you, ‘my greatest adventure’. – James”

This is such a great idea and their love story is a must read.  I hope their story inspires other brides and grooms to create their own creative love story and it doesn’t have to be just for this one movie, or even a movie at all.  Brides, think outside the box & if you have a great idea don’t be afraid to share with your photographer.  Some ideas can take little props that you can pick up on your own before you shoot.  When talking with your photographer be sure to let them know of any ideas or desires before hand to make sure they are on the same page with you.   You can simplify any idea you see or you can  expand & making even bigger.  The sky is the limit.  Have fun planning your big wedding adventure.

We just received some images for Swensen Photography from one of their most recent shoots & wanted to share it with you.  These bridals were taken at the beautiful La Caille, where the upcoming bridal show on July 17th will be held.  I love how clean & fresh these images are.  This bride is glowing.

We wanted to give a couple tips to the Brides on Bridal Photography.

1.  Make up & Hair~Make sure you don’t overdue your make over.  You want to look like you just on your very best day.  See how this Bride used her naturally, gorgeous, curly hair and she created two looks, one with her hair partially up & one with it down.  Feel free to be able to make those changes to get a couple different looks in your session.  Her make up was exquisite.  Not too much, not too little, just perfect in defining her features & highlighting her natural beauty.  Don’t forget to check out our vendors for help on your special day.

2.  Flowers~ Don’t forget to order a bouquet for your bridals.  (I have to admit, I totally didn’t even think about a bouquet for my bridals~Seriously, what is wrong with me?  I really regret not having my perfect bouquet for my bridals)  So brides, don’t do what I did, plan ahead.  Contact your florist as soon as you have your bridal date scheduled & order that bouquet. Check out our flower vendors here.

3.  Rings~Don’t forget to wear your ring.  You will want highlights with your ring & HIS ring if you plan on having your fiance join you at the bridals for some pictures together.

4.  Hire a professional~ You don’t want to regret your images later.  Hire someone who knows the industry & whose work you love.  We have a great selection on our website be sure to check out of photography vendors here.

5. Have fun~ If you are having fun it will show in your pictures.  Enjoy being a model for a day.  For most of us being a model doesn’t happen all the time, so enjoy being beautiful and make sure you think about your fiance while posing.  That extra sparkle in your eye will shine through if you do.

Special thanks to Swensen Photography for sharing these images with us.  Be sure to check them out on our site thebrideandgroom.com.

Professional Photographer or Friend w/ a Camera?

So your uncle “Joe” has a nice camera, says that he’s a photographer, and wants to experiment on your wedding day. Why not, right? After all, you have seen a few shots he’s taken outdoors and they are pretty good.
But wedding photography is a whole different ball game. It is fast paced, high-stress, and often indoors with difficult lighting conditions. You only have ONE wedding day, and once it’s gone, you will never be able to bring it back. And the only tangible things you will have when it’s all over (besides your new spouse!) are your pictures and videos. Make sure you entrust those priceless memories with someone who really knows what they are doing.
The following pictures demonstrate the difference between hiring a professional photographer, and just having some family friend who has little experience shooting an actual wedding. The pictures on the left were taken by a professional photographer next to pictures on the right taken by an amateur at the exact same venue and during the exact same time of day.
I kid you not – these are actual pictures taken by someone claiming to be a photographer. They even had a nice camera, lens and flash. Don’t let this happen to you.

The picture on the right happens when someone relies solely on flash to light up the room. If your photographer doesn’t know how to change the right settings on an SLR camera, the subject will be lit up but everything else will be dark.

Indoor shots are very difficult if your photographer only has a built-in flash. Flash (if used at all) should be bounced off the ceiling or walls to light up the room evenly. This requires a mounted bounce flash or lighting equipment separate from the camera itself.
Most good photographers know that point of view is very important in getting a good photograph.

Shots with children should be taken at their level, and that means getting down on your knees. Can you see what a huge difference it makes? You can actually see the child’s features and it’s so much more personal.

On these next pictures can you see the harsh shadow behind the bride and groom? This happens when your photographer doesn’t have bounce flash, or any type of diffuser for the light.

Don’t make the mistake of having a hobby photographer take the biggest day of your life into their hands. Hire someone who has a lot of experience doing weddings because the difference can literally be night and day!

Special thanks to Bethany with Moments to Remember for her article about hiring a professional photographer for your wedding day.
