8 Steps To The Perfect Wedding Suit by Dress Code

The rental tuxedo is slowly falling out of style. Kind of like that sweaty pair of bowling shoes, wearing a rental on the big day just doesn’t allow you to feel (and look) your best.

And with rentals in the $100 range, those that need to rent more than a day for all the wedding festivities (photo sessions, the wedding, the reception) are already well into the suit price range anyway. But the wedding suit isn’t only practical – it’s stylish, and can be just as formal if you select the right fabric and accessories, or even add a vest to make it a 3-Piece.

At Dress Code we help men design suits and tuxedos that will help them look and feel great on their wedding day. And we have hundreds of different fabrics options, and styles that can go with any wedding – whether formal, casual, or even vintage. And when coupled with a great fit, you’ll look just as good as the bride, and you’ll be able to wear your suit long after the wedding day.

How to Design the Perfect Wedding Suit

We’ve compiled some ideas we have for how to design the perfect suit for your wedding. Consider it a checklist – go through each option and decide what you’re looking for, and how to make it work with the bride’s dress, the décor, and everything else that’s going into the big day.

1. Emphasize the Fit

Nothing looks better than a suit that was built to your measurements and fits perfectly. Consider some fit styles, and maybe design something that is cut a little more modern and form-fitting than that suit you’ve had sitting in your closet since graduation. 75% of the suit is how it fits – so make this one a priority.

2. Make it a 3-Piece

Adding a vest to the suit or tuxedo takes your look to the next level. It’s a sharp look, and it’s also going to come in handy after a long day of wearing your suit jacket: when you shed the jacket, you’ll still look classy in the pictures with your matching vest.

3. Integrate Your Wedding Colors!

We have many ways for you to bring the wedding colors into your suit. Start with the suit or tux color (there are hundreds of fabric options), but then take things a little deeper with a bold custom liner and inside trim colors. This can be the fun part of the design.

4. Embroider Your Date

A lot of our clients like to monogram their wedding date into the inside of their jacket. It makes the suit a little more memorable – and adds a nice touch for the wedding day.

5. Start Early

It only takes 4-5 weeks from design to delivery, but with weddings we ask that you start 2 months prior to the date you would like to wear it. Last minute rushes aren’t fun during the heat of wedding planning so we like to leave as much room at the end as possible.

6. Attention to the Details

Make the dress shirt a French cuff and get some nice cuff links to go with it. Don’t forget a perfectly-folded pocket square and maybe even add a tie bar to show that you mean business. No reason to scrimp on the small details.

7. The Shoes

The shoes are important – and easy to forget. If you don’t have the budget to invest in a new pair of dress shoes, get your shoes polished at the very least. A scuffed up pair of dress shoes can ruin the entire outfit.

8. Take Advantage of a Package Deal

Dress Code has packages for the groom, for the fathers, for the groomsmen, or for the whole party! If you’d like the groomsmen to be in matching suits, vests, or shirts, we make it easy to coordinate. And when you’re buying in volume, there are many ways to save.

And don’t worry if anyone in the group is out of state – we have an easy process to get their measurements and have them fitted for your wedding.

Good luck with the wedding planning! When you’re ready to start designing your suit, Schedule an Appointment with one of Style Consultants and we’ll help you craft an excellent look for your wedding!
