After the last guest has left and the last flower wilted (or preserved), what will you be left with? Memories of your special day. When it comes to protecting those memories, hiring the right wedding photographer will make all the difference.
Time to splurge
Many brides may be concerned with their budget, but when it comes to hiring a photographer, this is one area of your budget where you shouldn’t skimp. Unless your cousin Jim or sister Katie is a professional photographer, stick with hiring a pro and you won’t regret it.
What should I look for in a wedding photographer?
Look for a photographer who has a proven track record:
- What is his or her experience level? Has he or she little or a lot of background with photography?
- Is their experience in weddings or other areas of photography?
Ask the photographer about his or her contract details. Read the small print and be aware of certain terms, such as “hostage.” One photographer I checked out held the copyrights on bridal and engagement photos for his lifetime plus 50 years.
That happened to dissuade me from using him, but holding rights hostage isn’t always a bad thing. They have a reason for this and some reasons are great reasons: they may not want their work to get into the wrong hands and they are passionate about how those pictures turn out each time they are reproduced. The benefits of this are that you will be sure that each time you order another print from them, it will be the superior quality you expect from them and you won’t need to remember where you left the originals! If anything happens to your wedding album or pictures, you can call up your photographer and quickly have replacements.
Reasearch your photographer
Don’t be afraid to check out their work. That is the biggest factor in your final choice, after all. Browse their website albums as well as their books. Don’t just stick with looking at their wedding photography, either. They may have used a fantastic style with a child or some architecture that you will want them to incorporate into your wedding photography.
And last, but not least, check out their ….
Package deals
Many photographers and studios offer wedding photography packages, which are great! This way you can have the photographer you want and still save money. Check their packages, compare to others, but ultimately, the package and price shouldn’t be what sways your decision; what you should base your ultimate decision on is if the photographer is going to capture your wedding day and those special moments in a way that you will love.
