Holiday/Christmas Wedding Tips and Ideas

The holiday season is one of the most popular times of year to get married.  Obviously late spring through summer are always the most popular times of the year for various reasons, warmer weather, longer days, school is out etc etc.  But weddings over the holiday season are also an extremely popular time to get married.  One obvious reason is that colleges and universities are on break and most people head home for a two week period so it is easier to get family together and another reason is simply because people love the holidays and they love to celebrate at this time.  The last two weeks of December can be a very busy time for weddings.  Here are some great tips and advice for those brides who are planning a wedding during the Holidays.

Since many places will be decorated already with red and green, you may want to fit these colors into your theme. If you would rather work with a different color, there are many to choose from. Some other possible color schemes include silver and white, silver and light blue, or gold and off-white or cream. White and gold will also create an elegant atmosphere. Poinsettias are popular when Christmas approaches, so you may want to consider decorating the tables with them, plus you can let your family members, brides maids, groomsmen etc take them home afterwards. Other decorations include miniature Christmas trees with lights and ornaments on them. You can decorate trees to fit your theme. So if gold and white are your colors, wrap white lights on the trees and add gold garland or ornaments. Fake snow can be used instead of an aisle runner.

For your wedding cake having each tier look like an individually wrapped package is a popular look that is perfect for a Christmas wedding. You might also do a take on a  yule log, with a tiered chocolate cake that has holly – either real or made of gum paste – cascading down the side. Use marzipan, an almond paste used in many holiday desserts, as a filling.

Color coordinating your brides maids dresses to fit the holiday theme is a fun idea as well.  Just make sure that your brides maids don’t look like a Christmas tree.

One of the things that people love most about the holidays is all the smells.  You could have scented candles around that put off a wonderful holiday smell.

Here are some other decorating ideas for Holiday Brides.

  • Clear or white Christmas lights wrapped in white tulle give a soft effect.
  • Cover the chords with white ribbon edged with gold to make it look like a decoration too.
  • For a religious touch, you may use Christmas carols for your wedding music and sing as many as you like. Some of the favorite Christmas carols will make your guests sing along loudly too.
  • If you have other wedding colors in mind, you can match you Christmas lights to them.
  • Simple wreaths with white bows edged with gold or silver make great wall decorations.
  • Swags of white silk poinsettias with gold-tipped centers can be used to decorate the walls and tables for the Christmas wedding for a festive but elegant look.
  • Tables covered with net and having centerpieces of a glass bowl filled with Christmas ornaments look quite pretty. You can later give out these ornaments as wedding party favors.
  • Topiaries of any size can be used as table centerpieces.
  • You can decorate your church and wedding hall with lots of romantic and pillar-shaped candles and use ivy and berries for traditional Christmas wedding décor.
  • You can give a candlelight dinner to all your guests or make candle table centerpieces for your Christmas Wedding.
