Popular Spring Wedding Flowers

Written by~Karlie Badger (Garden House Floral)

Heading into the wedding season, we are all thinking spring. When thinking about flowers for your wedding you tend to think tulips or any spring bulbs at this time of year. There are however, there are many flowers in season right now.

Spring’s beautiful, colorful, blooms and blossoms tell us we made it through yet another winter. Tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and crocus are the typical hallmarks of the season, and roses abound. Think of fragrant lilies, lilac and gardenias, and everything from exotic green Cymbidium Orchids to abundantly petaled ranunculus in yellows, pinks and reds.

In terms of variety, you’ll find everything you need in spring’s abundant colors, hues and textures.

Agapanthus, Amaryllis, Anemone, Bells of Ireland, Bird of Paradise, Boronia, Brodea, CasaBlancaLily, CherryBlossom, Columbine, Cornflower, Daffodil, Dahlia, Delphinium, Dogwood, Forsythia, Foxglove, Freesia, Gardenia, Goldenrod, Helleborus, Hollyhock, Hyacinth, Hydrangea, Larkspur, Lilac, Lily of the Valley, Lisianthus, Magnolia, Orchid, Pansy, Pear Blossom, Peony, Phlox, Poppy, Protea, Pussy Willow, Ranunculus, Rose, Stargazer Lily, Statice, Stephanotis, Stock, Sweet Pea, Tulip, Viburnum, Violet, Waxflower, Wisteria, and Zinnia are a few of the “In” season flowers for spring.

One of the hottest spring bouquets right now includes the white Anemone. It is such a delicate flower, yet surprisingly durable in a bouquet. I’ve seen them used in a solid clutch bouquet, or combined with other colors and flowers. With the dark bluish black center, they go along with the white and black wedding theme, and it is easy to accent any color with them. Anemones also come in a true red, a few shades of pink and a dark purple, along with a few other colors. Check them out!

Twigs and blossoming branches are unique to spring. A few to keep in mind are: Forsythia, Flowering Quince, Cherry blossom, Pear blossom, Pussy Willow, Curly willow and many more. These can be used to add height to a centerpiece, or texture to your bouquet.

Wheat grass is a fun idea for centerpieces. It is inexpensive and pretty easy to come by. You can use it in many different ways. It brings and outdoor effect to the table.

Moss believe it or not is another way to bring that touch of new life to your spring wedding. There are many different varieties of moss. Sphagnum Moss, also called Sheet moss harvested for its natural look and green color. Reindeer Moss is very colorful and spongy to the touch. And Spanish moss, more of a dry moss with little color but used often to add texture to the base of wreaths and to fill in here and there. There are many ways to use it to add an earthy natural effect to your centerpieces.

Be creative with your wedding flowers. Design them to fit you and your personality. Take advantage of flowers that are in season, you will find lower prices and wide availability. Have fun with it! The possibilities are endless. Be sure to check out www.gardenhousefloral.com.
