Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. It is freezing!
This year in Utah, it seems to be particularly cold and snowy. Hats off to all the brides, grooms, families & friends, photographers, videographers and any other person that spent time outside for weddings on these cold winter days.
The bitter cold wind got me thinking about weddings in the winter…
Why would someone choose to get married in the winter in Utah?!
Here is what I have determined:
- Love the Winter Season
- Love to Ski/Snowboard
- School’s Out
- Family is in Town
You Love the Winter Season
One reason many people choose to get married in the winter is that they love the winter season. It is a beautiful time of year. After a fresh snowfall, everything is so clean and beautiful. Many places also decorate for the holidays making the wedding much more festive.
You Love to Ski/Snowboard
Utah is a big place for destination weddings - especially destination weddings at ski resorts. If you love winter, Utah is a gorgeous setting for your wedding.
Last year I did a wedding with a bride and groom from California. They were originally from Utah and came back often to visit the fabulous ski resorts that made Utah famous in 2002. When they got engaged, they chose a winter wedding date.
Their wedding was at Saint Thomas Moore Catholic church in Sandy and the reception at La Caille. Between the ceremony and reception we went up Cottonwood Canyon and got some great shots of the bride and groom and their wedding party. The day after the wedding, they went skiing with their family and friends in Park City. The bride wore her wedding dress and the groom wore his tux while they were skiing! Great pictures and great memories.
School’s Out
Around the first week in December, the fall semester of college wraps up and many couples flee to get married before school begins again in January. Plan ahead and realize many other college-aged couples will be planning their wedding for this time as well.
Family is in Town
December is a popular time for family and friends to fly-in from around the country. Why not celebrate your wedding when your loved ones are already planning on being in town.
The winter season can be just as, if not more, beautiful for celebrating a wedding. No matter when you choose to have your wedding, the important thing is that you are marrying the love of your life and starting a journey together.
Watch for a follow-up posting about making the most of the cold weather and getting great pictures with your photographer.
