Great Wedding Tips & Advice from David Perry

Written by~David Perry with David Perry Films

1. Don’t chew gum! Easiest way to take the “class” out of a classy person. Stop and look at a person who chews gum, now imagine having to film that person. Worse case scenario is during first dance or daddy daughter dance. Some people chew gum faster and harder when they are nervous. Not a pretty sight. I don’t know anyone that improves their appearance by chewing gum… enough said.

2. Know that it takes an hour before you come out of the temple once the sealing starts. This is one of the most misunderstood things about a temple wedding. Yes, the ceremony is 20 minutes, but then the couple greets their family and then has to change, redo her hair and makeup, etc. Trust me – it’s going to take one hour minimum.

3. You need at least 1.5 hrs at the temple for photos/video after they come out (I prefer 2 hours). Don’t plan your luncheon within three hours of the ceremony! It takes the romance out of the day when you are running ragged and the family is usually upset when the couple is late. Yes, they will be late. Better yet, have a dinner the night before instead.

4. If you want the best video you can get – film a pre-shoot. That means filming before the wedding day. Wait – what about not seeing the bride before the wedding day?!! That’s a rule made up in the days of arranged marriages so the groom wouldn’t back out if he thought the bride was a “sweet spirit”. No one is going to back out and now we are able to capture the groom seeing the bride in her gown for the first time (can’t do that on the wedding day), we can control the time of day for best lighting (2 hours before sunset) and this takes stress off the wedding day because we don’t have to film as much.

5. Don’t chew gum. Seriously… don’t chew gum.
