Choose A Unique Focal Point
How do you add the IT factor to your flowers, and more importantly, to your wedding as a whole? Center your flowers around one object or idea. For instance one of my favorite weddings the focal point was pears. Adding fruit to an arrangement is nothing new but it adds a level of personality that is lost without it. Sometimes the focal point is the unique vase, a rarely used flower, feathers, or type of greenery. Adding an ornate, antique brooch to the base of your bridal bouquet can be the difference between adding flowers to your wedding and adding you to the flowers. When done right, the flowers should reflect you.
Grouping Can Create A Dramatic Effect
Groups of arrangements quickly help guests recognize the atmosphere and tone of your wedding. Often when arrangements are spread thinly around the room, the idea gets lost. Trends are moving away from traditional arrangements that blend color. In floral design it has become increasingly popular to take multiple arrangements that each display a unique texture, shape or color and combine them in a group for a more dramatic effect.
Think Outside The Vase
Sometimes the easiest way to keep from falling into old trends is breaking away from the vases. Hanging flower balls, wreaths and hanging pomander balls are just a few ways to break the mold of the predictable wedding flower “package”. Mixing flowers with existing plants such as topiaries or garland allows you integrate your idea and design with your venue’s available resources.
