Stephanie Engelbrecht & Richard Richins were married on Sunday May 29, 2011 at the beautiful La Caille. Their unique & fun style was showcased throughout their wedding. No detail was spared. Stephanie had some incredible wedding vendors to help keep her day personal, memorable & ever lasting. From her gorgeous wedding gown created by Betsy with Modest Couture by Elizabeth to the amazing videography work by Chris McClain Productions. Another masterpiece has been created. Special thanks to Alyography Photography for sharing their images with us from this beautiful wedding. Here are some details about the happy couple & their amazing day.
Before the Wedding~
Occupations: Richie does quality control for Granite Construction & Stephanie teaches yoga, beginner piano lessons, sells doTerra essential oils, and in the winter works at Park City Mountain Resort in the Kids Mountain School as a ski instructor and supervisor.
How they met: They met during a yoga class. It started with a smile and conversation & they obviously hit it off.
The Proposal~”The day we got engaged was really magical. We spent the whole day together snowboarding at Park City Mountain Resort and we really had a blast. After we were done at the mountain, Richie told me that he had made reservations at Franck’s down is Salt Lake City and that I should dress up a little bit. A fancy dinner after a day of snowboarding is pretty out of the ordinary for us so I started to become a little suspicious. Dinner was absolutely amazing but no proposal so I thought ok, nothing is going to happen. After dinner Richie suggested going to one of my favorite frozen yogurt places for dessert. This was definitely out of character because Richie doesn’t usually like dessert whereas I want to eat dessert all day long. I thought, ok, maybe now? But nothing. After we got frozen yogurt Richie took me on a scenic drive to the top of a very high hill so we could look over the city lights. It was a very romantic spot. Finally, he told me he had a surprise and to close my eyes. I did, and when I opened them I saw the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen presented to me by the man of dreams and the proposal “will you marry me?” I said yes!”
What they do for fun Together: Stephanie & Richie love to ski & snowboard. They also enjoy practicing yoga together, going for walks or hikes & watching movies. They also like to eat Indian food or really any good food for that matter.
Tell us more about your love story: “I knew that Richie and I were going to get married for a long time. One night after we had “dated” for a few weeks, Richie asked me if I wanted to start dating “exclusively”. As soon as he asked me that question I immediately had a flash into the future that he was going to be my husband. Seriously.”
Their Love Song~” We don’t have an official song, although, we may be leaning towards “Home” by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. We had the band learn that song to play during our reception and we will probably use that song in our wedding video. I love it.”
Wedding colors: Orange, hot pink and light pink.
What Stephanie likes most about Richie~“Richie is easily the friendliest guy I’ve ever met. He says hello and talks to everyone and can find the good in everyone. He has a huge heart and his depth of character continues to astound me. He is an old soul, a great teacher and my true love.”
What Richie Likes most about Stephanie: “She is the most beautiful person I know both in looks and in spirit. She is also a very talented person and has a passion for life that is contagious.”
Most Memorable part of the Wedding~“I remember feeling overwhelmed with positivity and support. I had no idea how emotionally invested other people can become in the wedding process. It is really a beautiful thing to be around so many people who love and care about you.”
What they would do differently~ “Honestly, I would try to make our wedding a little bit smaller. I love everyone who came to our wedding and everyone that we invited but I felt like we had no time to have a true visit with anyone. In terms of visiting with our guests we were definitely spread too thin.”
Photography~ “We were very lucky to be able to have a few photographers. One of my very good friends, Alysha Kester of Alyography Photography is an amazing photographer!!! She took our engagement photos and Bridal photos for me before the wedding. I love that she is so easy to work with. She provided great direction for us during posed shots and during the wedding she took amazing photos when I didn’t even know she was taking pictures at all! We also used Dave Tucker from studio1 photography. Dave was also great to work with. He was very agreeable to every shot that I wanted and a genuinely nice guy whose work is great. Then, on top of those two fabulous photographers we also had the great fortune to work with Chris McClain who is an amazing videographer. We are eagerly awaiting our “wedding trailer” which is just like a preview for a movie! I love all of Chris’s work that I have seen so far because it is fun to watch and not overly sentimental. I definitely wanted our wedding video to be fun to watch and not sad. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!”
Flowers~ “Kati Wagner, of Tulips & Thyme, did our flowers and centerpieces. She is an amazing artist. I did not know anything at all about flowers and I didn’t know the specifics of what I wanted. I went into a meeting with Kati, told her general information and general ideas and what she created was beyond perfection.”
Hair & make up~ “Julie Giles, a good friend to both me and to my mom, did my hair and I absolutely loved it! I started going to Julie a few years ago for hair and waxing and I am so lucky to have found someone who is not only talented in the beauty industry, but who I can really call a friend as well. She also tinted my eye lashes for the big day. Ashlee Raybould of Array Salon did my makeup. I have worked with Ashlee a few other times and have always been extremely impressed with her work. She is a beautiful person and made me look and feel beautiful too!”
Wedding cake~ “Jennifer Hill created the most amazing cake I have ever seen or tasted for our wedding. Her business is Salt Cake City and her cakes are mind blowing. After our initial taste test I dreamed about her cakes and cupcakes (which she filled with delicious cream) for weeks afterwards. She has a huge list of flavors to choose from and I wish we could have sampled them all because some of the flavors are non-traditional and quite interesting. In my opinion, the coolest part of her cakes is her fondant which she makes from marshmallows so it actually tastes good! After tasting 6 delicious cakes we decided to go with two flavors, red velvet and coconut cream. I have always wanted a topsy-turvy cake and I was fairly specific on how I wanted the cake to be decorated. She sent me numerous sketches and we came up with my dream cake! It was perfect and absolutely delicious.”
Catering~ La Caille handled all of our food. They have an amazing restaurant so it was easy to leave the food up to them, plus it was wonderful not to have to seek out an additional vendor. One stop shopping is less stressful!
Wedding Dress~ “I am extremely proud of my wedding dress that was made by the very talented Betsy Barker, owner of Modest Couture by Elizabeth. Color is very important to me. I love color and desperately wanted my wedding dress to incorporate color in some way while at the same time still looking like a bride. I first met Betsy at a bridal show at La Caille about a year ago. I thought that her dresses were very cute and classy at the same time. They were different from the thousands of other dresses out there that you find in department stores and some of her dresses also had pops of color! We chatted at the show and set up a time to meet. During our meeting I showed Betsy a picture of dress that I liked and we used that as a starting point. It was a very collaborative process, which I loved. We held up different colors of white to figure out what looked best with my skin, we discussed necklines, hems, various types of lace…everything! Betsy was able to create a dress that was absolutely perfect for me! She made me a beautiful feather facinator with a netted veil and adorable headpieces for all of my bridesmaids. Not only that, she also made my husband a lovely tie that matched the orange of my dress exactly, and she also created a stunning dress for my mom complete with matching pill box hat! In short, she is amazing.”
Rings: Richie found both my engagement ring and wedding ring at Fred Meyer Jewelers and that is where I found his wedding band as well. Every time we go into the store the salespeople are extremely helpful and they always polish my rings and make them super shinny!
Tux: Men’s Wearhouse
Shoes: Calvin Klein, Rudie Silk Satin shoes, purchased from endless.com
Entertainment: “During our ceremony we were lucky enough to have Jessica Wood, my harp teacher and a beautiful harpist, play her harp. We had a “cocktail hour” between the ceremony and reception and during that time Jessica accompanied a dear friend of mine and an incredible tenor, Zachary Borichevsky, for a lovely Puccini song. His performance truly brought tears to my eyes and I am so grateful we were able to have such an abundance of musical talent at our wedding! Sin City Soul, a terrific local Park City band, played during our reception. They were great! Everyone enjoyed the music and had a fun time dancing. They even took the time to learn a few special request songs, including “Love Shack,” which I really appreciated. Plus, they sang a traditional Happy Birthday to my Grandmother and then went directly into the Beatles version of Happy Birthday and that really brought the house down!”
What other vendors & or wedding sites will you use to help you plan your wedding: “In terms of planning the ceremony, I relied heavily on the advice and personal experience of our officiant Douglas Boyce, Ph. D. Both he and his wife Melanie were a huge source of comfort and inspiration to us both. For the reception, Alysha Kester, Alyography Photography, helped me brainstorm and plan a lot of cute details. I also got some great ideas on etsy.com and browsing online at various DIY wedding sites and projects.”
Advice from the Bride: “If you have amazing friends and family like I do, trust them to help you do some of the work. I was completely blown away by how willing my friends were to help me and what an amazing job they did! Also, be nice to your parents because they are just as stressed out as you are and they really want things to be perfect for their daughter.”

Stephanie & Richie were such an awesome couple to work with! I had so much fun helping them out with the details of the wedding and enjoyed every minute! La Caille’s service was fabulous, the Mimosas were delicious, Tulips & Thyme’s floral design was phenomenal, and the spunky colors and romantic design of the wedding dress just set the mood for a fun day! Congratulations Stephanie, Richie, their families, friends, and all the hard-working vendors who helped to pull it off!
